Asparagus has a high alkaline content. When cats consume it regularly, it can change the pH of their urine. With time this can cause the formation of crystals which can lead to urinary tract blockages. Warning: The whole stalk can be a potential choking hazard.
Superb vegetables to offer your cat are chopped carrots, peas, frozen corn, broccoli florets, green beans, zucchini, lettuce, spinach, winter squash, and pumpkin. This produce should be cooked (steamed is best) since felines, just like us humans, lack a sufficient way to break down plant cell walls.
Asparagus is a yummy vegetable that is packed with vitamins and minerals. It`s a very healthy food for humans, but can dogs eat asparagus? Asparagus is not toxic for dogs, so they can safely eat it.
The texture of asparagus could feel good on their gums, especially if they`re suffering from any gum disease or gingivitis. Another reason cats might like asparagus is instinct. Cats don`t eat fruits or vegetables in the wild, but they may occasionally chew some grass.
Asparagus

Like the rhubarb, the part of the asparagus plant that we love – the young stems – are perfectly safe to eat. But the asparagus hides a deceptive, nasty secret: Its fruit, which are bright red berries, are toxic to humans.

Some of the most toxic food for cats include onions & garlic, raw eggs & meat, chocolate, alcohol, grapes and raisins. Avoid feeding your cat table scraps, especially around the holidays, as these may contain potentially toxic ingredients.
Cats can safely consume carrots as long as they are cooked and sliced into small pieces to reduce the risk of choking. Be sure to feed carrots in moderation as larger amounts could cause GI upset, obesity, and diabetes. Don`t forget that cats are carnivorous animals and need meat to survive.
Yes, broccoli is safe for cats, and some of them will even beg for it! So go ahead and add a little to their regular food or use it as an occasional treat. Just avoid giving too much as it may interfere with a cat`s appetite for the meaty food they need or upset their tummies.
While many “people foods,” like chocolate, are toxic for cats and other pets, and they should be avoided altogether, bananas aren`t toxic to pets. It is one of the fruits that cats can eat safely in small portions.
Asparagus is a highly nutritious vegetable that can be eaten cooked or raw. Because of its tough texture, cooking is the most popular preparation method. However, thinly sliced or marinated raw spears can be equally enjoyable.
Which wild animals consume asparagus? Wild animals that eat asparagus include rabbits, deer, groundhogs, and squirrels. They relish the succulent stalks and leaves of young asparagus plants in early spring, often before they are large enough to harvest.
Asparagus is high in potassium, thiamin, and vitamins A and B6. These nutrients aren`t just good for you, but for your dog as well. Potassium gives your dog the energy they need for their daily walk, as it promotes the proper function of the heart, the muscles, and the nervous system.
You can feed your cat hard boiled, scrambled, poached or even microwaved eggs as long as they`re fully cooked (reaching an internal temperature of 160°F). Just let the egg cool down a bit before serving. Don`t add any seasonings to the egg that you feed your cat – not even salt.
Like other fruits that are safe for cats, cucumbers are a safe snack for your kitty. Offer them a small, seedless chunk of cucumber (but never the plant leaves, which are toxic) and see what happens.
People with certain health conditions should not eat too much asparagus. Vitamin K plays a role in blood clotting. Anyone who is taking a blood thinner, such as warfarin (Coumadin), should not suddenly increase or decrease their consumption of vitamin K.
Signs Your Asparagus Has Gone Bad

By the time the tips turn black, you`ll notice they`re completely mushy and probably smell a little funky, too. If your asparagus is slimy or sticky, feels mushy and soft, smells foul or has visible signs of mold, it`s time to toss it.

Most cats are actually `lactose intolerant` as they don`t have the enzyme (lactase) in their intestines to digest the sugar in milk (lactose), meaning that milk which contains lactose can make them poorly. They can get vomiting, diarrhoea and stomach pain from drinking it (just like lactose intolerance in humans).
Potatoes are not particularly nutritious for cats, and your feline should be able to get all the nutrients they need from specially formulated commercial cat foods. Because of this, potatoes should be a once-in-a-while treat, rather than an essential component of your cat`s diet.
Yes, cats can safely consume rice, but only from time to time and in moderate amounts. Rice is not toxic to cats, so a bit of it won`t do your kitty any harm, but you shouldn`t give too much as rice is not an essential part of their diet.
Is it safe to give your feline friend some sweet potato? The answer is yes! For cats, a sweet potato that`s been cooked and offered as an occasional treat is best, but it should never be a replacement for their regular food. As obligate carnivores, cats rely on meat protein to stay healthy.
Can cats eat tomatoes? The answer is yes, but only red, ripe tomatoes. Unripe green tomatoes, as well as the leaves and stems of tomatoes, are not okay for cats. These green parts contain αlpha‐tomatine and αlpha‐dehydrotomatine which are toxic to cats.
So remember, nonfat plain yogurt is usually safe and healthy for cats and dogs to eat as a fun snack — just check the nutrition label first to make sure it doesn`t contain a dangerous ingredient, like xylitol. And for even more power-packed benefits, consider adding a daily probiotic to their regimen.
The basic ingredients of pasta—flour, water, and eggs—are typically okay for cats to eat. The shape of the pasta also doesn`t matter due to it`s soft texture, so whether your preference is rotini or linguine, it should be fine for your cat to sample.

Q. Just how toxic is the Lantana plant to dogs? In Arizona it is is commonly used by landscapers who don’t feel it’s poisonous to pets. (Esp dogs/puppies
ANSWER : A. Yes , it is toxic to all animals . I did research it a bit as I was not too familiar with the plant .Youu need 1% more than the animal weight to be toxic.
Animals in pastures with sufficient forage will often avoid Lantana, perhaps because of its pungent aroma and taste, but animals unfamiliar to the plant may ingest enough to affect them. Fifty to ninety percent of animals newly exposed may be affected. Foliage and ripe berries contain the toxic substances with the toxins being in higher concentrations in the green berries. Species affected include cattle, sheep, horses, dogs, guinea pigs, and rabbits (Ross, Ivan A. Medicial plants of the world. Totowa, N.J.: Humana. 1999. p. 187.)
The major clinical effect of Lantana toxicosis is photosensitization, the onset of which often takes place in 1 to 2 days after consumption of a toxic dose (1% or more of animal’s body weight).

Q. Is chocolate bad for my dog?
ANSWER : A. Yes chocolate is toxic to dogs. The higher the cocoa content the more toxic it is. Therefore, less amount of 80% dark chocolate needs to be consumed compared to white chocolate before toxic signs can be appreciated.

Also, the weight of the dog is important in terms of the amounts needed to be ingested before toxic symptoms appear. Less than 1oz of milk chocolate per 1lb of bodyweight needs to be eaten to be potentially lethal and less than 0.1oz per 1lb of baking chocolate is needed to be potentially fatal. If you are unsure, you should always contact your vet or emergency vet straight after ingestion.

If your dog has eaten more than the toxic amount, vomiting needs to be induced within two hours of ingestion. Clinical signs usually occur within 6-12 hours post ingestion. Mild signs can include increased thirst, restlessness, vomiting and diarrhea. More severe signs can include hyperactivity, increased urination, muscle tremors, unbalanced/uncoordinated, seizures, increased heart rate, increased breathing, coma and death.

Q. Cat showing no signs of fleas, some scratching, doing well.Found a worm the other day.Does the cat have fleas again? Can garlic in catfood help?dangers
ANSWER : A. I’m sorry that you are having itching issues! Those can be tough to figure out! Fleas can also be a tough issue. They are hard get rid of and hard control for sure! If your cat is itching and you are finding worms there is a chance that you may have fleas. It depends on the type of worms of your finding. If the worm was a small, flat worm that resembled a grain of rice, I would say for sure that you most likely have fleas. This was most likely a tape worm segment. Tapeworms are the result of flea infestations. If the worm was longer and white, then you could be looking at another type of worm such as a roundworm. The best option would be to take your kitty into the vet where they can run a fecal test and see exactly which kind of worm eggs are in the sample. This way they can treat your cat for worms and solve one of your issues!
Now on the your next questions: the Garlic. Garlic is actually TOXIC to your cat so I would recommend to not use it under any circumstances! There are some great products that your vet can recommend for fleas that won’t harm your kitty. One that works great and actually takes care of fleas and all sorts of worms is called Revolution. It is a monthly topical solution and cats tend to tolerate it really well. I hope this was helpful and I hope your kitty feels better soon!

Q. My dog ate 2 candy bars, a Snickers and M&Ms. Is this toxic? He is a 13.4 lbs Chorckie. He drank water and ate some carrots too
ANSWER : A. Chocolate is toxic to dogs. Dark chocolate is usually more harmful than milk chocolate products, as the cocoa content (which is the toxic part) is higher, however any chocolate product if eaten in a high enough amount can be harmful.

It is best to contact your local veterinarian or emergency clinic for care if your dog has ingested chocolate. If the ingestion was recent, your vet may recommend inducing vomiting and can give you instructions unique to your dog for care. If the ingestion was not recent, your vet may recommend bringing your dog in for care, or monitoring for signs of toxicity such as vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, abdominal pain or changes in behavior or appetite.

Q. Is chocolate really toxic to dogs??

Q. My dog 1 year old Jack Russell miniature pincer mix. He ate one green grape what should I do?
ANSWER : A. The skin of grapes can be toxic to dogs, but the likelihood that only one grape will cause a problem is very low. Watch your pet for signs of toxicity (vomiting, not eating, listless) for the next 1-3 days. Mess your veterinarian if she shows signs of illness, but the ingestion of only one grape is not likely to cause a toxicity.

Q. Why is my son’s cat continually licking her belly to the point the hair is falling out and a sore has developed? She is 12 yrs old inside cat.
ANSWER : A. Many things can cause this such as allergies, auto immune disease, etc. However it could be as simple as your cat is bored or stressed out. Have you had any enviromental changes lately that couild be stressing your feline friend out? Outdoor cats are accustomed to chasing, hunting, and playing with all sorts of critters. Sometimes indoor kitties need added stimulation to keep them “sane”. Try gsetting your cat some toys to play with. A laser pointer can be a great interaction toy for the two of you to play with. You can also try getting your fury friend a scratching post or a cat tower that will allow him/her to sit and look out the window. A good product for stressed out kitties is Feliway. Feliway is a pheremoene that mimics pheromones produced by recent mothers to kittens. This product comes in a plug-in diffuser or a spray and is available over the counter at most animal hospitals. The spray form of Feliway can be particularly usefull to calm kitties who get stressed when put in a cat carrier. Simply spray Feliway in your carrier before you load your cat up. If none of the above has worked it sounds like it is time to use this technique to get yourcat into the carrier and to the vet. There they can perform diagnostics such as skin cytologies, allergy testing, skin scrapes to determine what the problem is.
One thing i forgot to mention at the beginning is you certainly need to rule out fleas as the cause. If a cat has a flea allergy just one flea bite can drive them crazy and cause them to lick thier belly raw and hairless. Revolution is a great monthly topicall product for fleas, heartworms, and intestinal parasites. Even indoor cats need flea protection. Good luck!
